Conservatorship Papers
Introduction
Your child is under your loving care. You protect her from the world. She can’t care for herself. She has special needs. But when she becomes an adult, she can’t just be cast out into the world alone. A conservatorship can keep her back in your loving arms.
If your child cannot reasonably be expected to care for himself (or herself), you owe him a duty of love to become his conservator and help keep him in your loving control. We can help.
What is a conservatorship?
A conservatorship is a court order appointing a responsible adult to protect and care for another adult who cannot reasonably care for himself or herself or manage his or her own finances. There are generally four types of conservatorships:
1. General Conservatorship
Used for adults who cannot handle their own finances or care for themselves.
2. Limited Conservatorship
Used for adults with developmental disabilities who can provide some care for themselves but still need help.
3. Temporary Conservatorship
An emergency conservatorship used for adults who need immediate help while the court decides whether to impose a General or a Limited Conservatorship.
4. Lanterman-Petris-Short Conservatorship (LPS)
A conservatorship issued against the will of an adult who needs restrictive living arrangements and extended mental health treatment but refuses to get needed help.
We have offices in Bakersfield and Fresno, but we prepare conservatorship paperwork for clients throughout California.
